NOTES ARCHIVE

February 17th,  2010

We are full on into the season and the music nights are awesome.  Standing room only with musicians from all parts of North America joining in.  Piano players, guitar players, harmonicats, etc.   My good friend Graham Kieghley was here this weekend sitting in on bass with us.   Graham goes all the way back to the 70's with one of my versions of Philo and the Shuffle Band.  Soon to arrive will be my old guitar mate Denny Lundsford and his girlfriend Kristen.  Denny also played guitar in of my bands.  That one happened to be Philo and the Rockamatics.  Great music.

For those of you who haven't been to our little village of La Cruz lately you are in for a treat.  They're spiffing up the old Pueblo.  2010 happens to be Mexico's bicentennial year and La Cruz marina is hosting the MexOrc race which is just part of the festivities.  All along the highway into the village they have planted over 200 new, big palm trees.  And down the main street they have painted all the Casas and Tiendas.   I even put a new coat of paint on my place.  Whoop ti doo.

Wednesday, March 3rd we are having our third annual benefit for the community.  This one is for my favorite charity, "The Friendship club of La Cruz."  This is a group that we put together here at Philo's to help children with medical problems.

This benefit will be a little different.  It will be an all you can eat BBQ Rib and Chicken Buffet.   The price will be 200 pesos and will include a full nights entertainment with lots of great music as well as the children's dance folk dance troupe.  So get your tickets early they are going fast.  Tickets are on sale right here at Philo's.  All profits will help the Friendship Club continue in its support of medical and school needs for our area. Tickets can be purchased at Philo's Club and from Kathleen and her helpers.

And from Kathleen;

We very much need the help and support of our friends to make the benefit for the friendship club a success. At this time, we are most in need of volunteers to sell tickets. If ten people can each sell ten tickets for us, we will be well on our way to meeting our goal of selling 120 tickets. We are also asking for donations of items in excellent condition for the auction. We are looking for items such as art and Mexican crafts, small household appliances, furniture and jewelry. Please let Kathleen know if you have a donation and can help sell tickets. kdobek@hotmail.com   Muchas gracias!

The Friendship Club of La Cruz will be one of many participants in this year's Nuevo Vallarta Yacht Club Art and Wine Festival. Please join us to see original works of art depicting scenes of La Cruz by the Club's patroness, watercolorist Muriel Taylor. The Festival is this Sunday, February 21, from 3-6 p.m. and is open to the public.

And remember...

Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings.  JFK
