NOTES ARCHIVE

October 9th, 2009

It's been a long hot steamy summer.  The nights are getting cooler and that is usually the first sign of the onset of the beautiful weather to come.  We here in the Banderas Bay are located on the same latitude as Hawaii.   So.... that means near perfect weather in the winter months.  From November to April it's idyllic.  And, it seems like everyday I say hi to someone who has returned for the winter.   I'm starting to get the feeling that it's going to be a great year.  That is, good lord willing and the creeks don't rise.

Halloween will soon be here and it's Philo's ''kick off the season'' night.  So on October the 31st costume up and come by Philo's for a spectacular night.  There will be some cool prizes for the best costumes.  Plus every year we give out candy to over 300 trick or treating kids in costume.  It's a lot of fun.   Bring your kids, if you have any, or just come by yourselves and watch a great kids show.  And while your at it, bring a couple of bags of candy to give out to the kids.

I've been thinking about another over night trip to San Sebastian with the band again.   Probably around the 1st weekend in December.  That would make it Sunday the 6th and returning on Monday the 7th.  San Sebastian is a 400 year old silver mining village, one hour and forty five minutes from Philo's, located in the mountains, at an elevation of 5,000 ft.

Most of you know the drill.  About 100 of us drive up on Sunday morning in cars and on lots of motorcycles, returning on Monday after brunch.  For $800 pesos (about   $60 usd), you get a room for the night, a delicious catered dinner, a party with Philo and the Mexican Shuffle Band and a continental breakfast the next day.  WOW what a deal.

After the dinner and party we all move upstairs to the old bar and just outside the old bar we light a campfire and sing songs and drink Tequila till the cows come home.   These trips sell out fast, so if you are considering going with us, please let me know as soon as possible and I will add you to the list.

And, once again, Christmas is coming up.  For all of you who are coming back soon, don't forget the kids.  Every year Santa visits Philo's and gives out gifts to the local children.  Stocking stuffers work the best.

And remember...

What a wretched lot of old shrivelled creatures we shall be by-and-by. Never mind--the uglier we get in the eyes of others, the lovelier we shall be to each other; that has always been my firm faith about friendship.

George Eliot
