I
know, it's been a long time since the last Philo's Notes update, but it's been a long lazy
August here in Paradise. Well maybe not paradise since it's been so hot and steamy.
Although the last few days we have had pretty pleasant temperatures what with
hurricane Jimena rolling by a hundred or so miles outside the Bay. Poor Cabo is
bracing for a long hard one. The winds are upwards of 140 miles per hour. Good
luck up there you guys.
There's not many of us left here so it's been
pretty slow. We're still open 5 nights a week with music Thursday, Friday and
Saturday nights. Actually this time of year can be a lot of fun for the musicians.
Tis the season to step out and try new things. Some work and some don't but
all in all it's great fun.
So just a few reminders for everyone.
1. Christmas is coming up. For all of
you who are coming back soon, don't forget the kids. Every year Santa visits Philo's
and gives out gifts to the local children. Stocking stuffers work the best.
Something crossed my mind when I was up there in
the good old US of A this year visiting my brother, whose kid is now in College, and has
out grown most of his electronic games. There are so many kids here who just can't afford
those things. Maybe you know someone like that who can donate their game to a kid in
Mexico. (By the way, thanks brother Doug and sister Rennifer for the game. Alejandro
loves it.)

2. Anyone looking for insurance of any kind,
here in Mexico, please send me an email and I will hook you up with Clem who can give you
all the straight poop. It's easy and very cheap. My health insurance for full
coverage with $2,000 deductible is about $120 per month and I'm old so yours will be a lot
cheaper because you are all younger than me.
3. Some crazy stuff is happening in the US
now with the IRS and people who live work and own property abroad. Check out this
article on "Tax Implications of Having a Fideicomiso." http://fideicomiso.wordpress.com/
And this article from the Bahia de Banderas News.

If you have any questions regarding tax stuff like
this in Mexico give this guy Don D Nelson a shout. He will be happy to answer any
questions you have.

And remember...
"Look, I don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say
that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a
lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think
noisy and colorfully, or you're not alive."
